What this calculator does

Estimates payment fee, total variable cost, profit, profit margin, and cost-based ROI for one dropshipping order. It combines selling price with supplier, shipping, payment-processing, and advertising cost per sale.

How to use it

Enter all amounts on a per-order basis and use one currency. Supply both payment percentage and flat charge; if supplier cost already includes shipping, enter zero for shipping to avoid counting it twice.

Worked example

With defaults of 34.99 price, 9.50 supplier, 3.50 shipping, 2.9% plus 0.30 payment, and 8.00 advertising, payment fee is 1.31. Total cost is 22.31, profit 12.68, margin 36.2%, and ROI 56.8%.

Formulas used

Payment fee equals price times percentage divided by 100 plus the flat charge. Total cost adds supplier, shipping, payment, and ad cost; profit is price minus total cost, margin divides profit by price, and ROI divides profit by total cost.

Choosing ad cost per sale

Divide attributable advertising spend by the orders it generated over a representative period. Keep attribution windows and refunded orders consistent; use zero only for genuinely organic sales, not to hide acquisition cost.

Limitations

The model omits refunds, chargebacks, taxes, duties, apps, subscriptions, customer support, currency conversion, failed deliveries, discounts, and fixed overhead. Only selling price must be positive; enter non-negative cost values to avoid misleading outputs.

Interpretation and privacy

A positive order estimate does not guarantee business profitability because returns and fixed costs can reverse it. Compare scenarios and reconcile them with actual statements. All calculations run locally and inputs are not uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as ad cost per sale?
Divide your total ad spend for a period by the number of orders it generated — that's your average ad cost per sale.
What's a healthy margin for dropshipping?
It varies widely, but many dropshippers target at least 20-30% margin after all costs to stay profitable and account for returns.
Does this include supplier's built-in shipping?
If your supplier's price already includes shipping, set the shipping cost field to 0 to avoid double-counting.
