What this calculator does

Calculates profit per unit, profit margin, and markup from a product's selling price, direct cost, and other per-unit fees. It helps compare the same profit amount against revenue and against total unit cost.

How to use it

Enter the selling price, product cost, and combined other fees for one unit. Results update instantly and display as plain numbers without a currency symbol, so use the same currency and tax basis for every monetary input.

Worked example

With the defaults—49.99 selling price, 18.00 product cost, and 4.50 other fees—total cost is 22.50 and profit is 27.49 per unit. The tool displays a 55.0% profit margin and 122.2% markup.

Formulas used

Profit equals selling price minus product cost minus other fees. Profit margin is profit divided by selling price times 100; markup is profit divided by total cost (product cost plus fees) times 100.

What to include as fees

Use per-unit amounts for shipping subsidies, packaging, payment processing, marketplace commissions, handling, or other variable charges not already in product cost. Keep taxes and discounts consistent with how you define selling price.

Limitations

The calculator models one unit and does not include sales volume, fixed overhead, returns, refunds, tax rules, tiered fees, or currency conversion. It accepts negative costs or fees, so enter non-negative business values to avoid misleading results.

Interpretation and privacy

Margin and markup use different denominators and should not be compared as if they were the same percentage. Treat the result as a planning estimate and verify actual fee statements. Calculations run locally; values are not uploaded.
