With the defaults of a 100 bill, 15% tip, and 2 people, tip amount = 100 × 0.15 = 15.00, total = 100 + 15 = 115.00, per person = 115 ÷ 2 = 57.50, and tip per person = 15 ÷ 2 = 7.50.

Tip amount = bill × (tip % ÷ 100). Total = bill + tip amount. Per person = total ÷ number of people. Tip per person = tip amount ÷ number of people. The number of people is always rounded down to a whole number and floored at 1.

Tipping norms vary widely by country and even by service type — some countries have no tipping culture at all, some expect around 10%, and others, often table service in the US, expect 18-20% or more. 15% is a common US default, but adjust it to your local norm or to the quality of service.

This splits the total evenly across everyone — it doesn't handle uneven splits, such as one person ordering more than another, doesn't account for tax being calculated separately from the tip, and doesn't check whether a service charge is already included in the bill you enter, since tipping on top of an already-included service charge effectively double-tips.
