What this calculator does
Estimates monthly net cash burn and cash runway from three inputs: current cash, monthly expenses, and monthly revenue. It is a quick snapshot for planning how long a fixed cash balance may support the current operating pattern.
How to use it
Enter non-negative values using one currency and the same monthly basis. The result shows expenses minus revenue as net burn and, when burn is positive, cash divided by that burn as runway in months.
Worked example
With 500,000 in cash, 60,000 of monthly expenses, and 15,000 of monthly revenue, net burn is 45,000 per month. The estimated runway is 11.1 months.
When revenue covers expenses
If revenue equals or exceeds expenses, the tool has no positive burn to divide into cash. It therefore displays “Profitable” and treats runway as having no finite limit; at exactly equal values this is break-even, despite that interface label.
Assumptions and limitations
The estimate assumes cash, expenses, and revenue stay constant each month. It does not model growth, seasonality, payment timing, one-off costs, debt, financing rounds, taxes, or minimum cash reserves, so a forecast can differ materially.
Interpretation and privacy
Runway is a planning estimate, not a prediction or accounting statement. Recalculate with conservative scenarios and compare against a cash-flow forecast. The calculation runs locally in your browser and does not upload the entered values.
Frequently Asked Questions

- What counts as a healthy runway?
- Many startups aim for at least 12-18 months of runway to give enough time to hit milestones or raise the next round.
- What if my revenue exceeds expenses?
- Then you're cash-flow positive with no burn — this tool will show your business as profitable with infinite runway.
