What this tool does

Extracts the text from every page of a PDF and rebuilds it as a plain-text Word (.docx) document — one paragraph per line of text — so you can edit the words in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice Writer.

How to use it

Drop or select one PDF file. The tool reads each page's text, one line at a time, and generates a ready-to-download .docx file, usually in well under a second for a typical multi-page document.

Worked example

Upload report.pdf (a 3-page text report) and you get report.docx — the same words, now as editable paragraphs, with a page break inserted where each original PDF page ended.

What is preserved and what isn't

Only the text itself is preserved, as separate paragraphs in reading order. Fonts, font sizes, colors, images, tables, headers/footers, columns and exact spacing from the original PDF are not carried over — the result is a plain, editable text document, not a pixel-for-pixel reproduction.

Why this differs from paid "PDF to Word" tools

Full layout-preserving PDF-to-Word conversion (keeping images, tables, columns and exact formatting) typically requires proprietary, expensive conversion engines or an OCR pipeline. This tool takes the simpler, honest, entirely free and private path: real text extraction and reflow, at the cost of layout fidelity.

Limitations

Scanned PDFs (pages that are actually images of text, with no real text layer) produce an empty or near-empty document, since there's no text to extract — this tool doesn't perform OCR. Very complex multi-column layouts may have their text extracted out of visual reading order.

Privacy

Both reading the PDF and building the Word document happen entirely in your browser, using pdf.js for text extraction. Your file is never uploaded to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this work on a scanned PDF (a photo of a page)?
No — a scanned page has no real text layer for this tool to read, only pixels, so the output document will be empty for those pages; you'd need an OCR tool for that instead.
Will my PDF's images and formatting carry over?
No — only the text content is extracted, as plain paragraphs; images, exact fonts, colors and layout are not reproduced.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No — text extraction and the Word document are both generated entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
