What this calculator does

Sums a list of monthly income amounts, sums a list of monthly expense amounts, and reports the net monthly cash flow along with a projected net annual figure.

How to use it

Edit or add rows under Monthly income for every regular inflow, and under Monthly expenses for every regular outflow, naming each row and entering one amount per row in one consistent currency.

Worked example

With income of 4,000 salary and 500 side income, total income is 4,500. With expenses of 1,500 rent, 400 groceries and 200 utilities, total expenses are 2,100. Net monthly cash flow is 4,500 − 2,100 = 2,400, and projected net annual cash flow is 2,400 × 12 = 28,800. Automated tests verify this example.

Formula

Total income = sum of income rows. Total expenses = sum of expense rows. Net monthly = total income − total expenses. Net annual = net monthly × 12 — a simple projection, not a forecast that accounts for seasonal variation.

What counts as income or an expense

Include any regular monthly inflow (salary, freelance income, rental income, side income) and any regular monthly outflow (rent or mortgage, utilities, groceries, insurance, debt payments, subscriptions). Leave out one-off items that won't repeat every month.

Why the annual projection is a simple multiple

Multiplying the net monthly figure by 12 assumes every month looks like the one you entered. It does not account for irregular income, seasonal expenses, annual bills paid once a year, raises, or one-off costs — treat the annual figure as a rough extrapolation, not a budget forecast.

Scope, sources and privacy

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the annual figure simply multiply the monthly one by 12?
It's a quick extrapolation that assumes every month matches the one you entered — it does not account for irregular income, seasonal expenses, once-a-year bills, or a mid-year raise, so treat it as a rough estimate rather than a budget forecast.
What's the difference between cash flow and net worth?
Cash flow measures money moving in and out each month, while net worth measures the total value of what you own minus what you owe at a single point in time — they're complementary views of your finances, and the Net Worth calculator covers the second one.
Does this pull data from my bank account?
No. Every row is a value you type in yourself; the calculator does not connect to any bank or accounting service, so accuracy depends entirely on how completely you list your income and expenses.
